A strong commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices ensures that every garment is produced responsibly. The entire production process prioritizes environmental conservation, reduces water waste, and strictly supports fair labor standards across the supply chain.
The Story Behind Earl Jean
Earl Jean was founded in Los Angeles in 1996 by Suzanne Costas Freiwald and Benjamin Freiwald. Suzanne, a former fashion stylist, had grown frustrated with jeans that were cut too tight at the waist, too loose in the thighs, and consistently short in the leg — so she redesigned them herself.
The first pair — a low-rise, dark denim bootleg cut — went straight to Barneys Los Angeles without a label. Buyers ordered on description alone. Fred Segal followed shortly after, and by 1997 Earl Jean had found its footing in the most discerning boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
By 2001, the brand had grown to nearly $29 million in revenue and was acquired by Nautica Enterprises. Earl Jean later passed to Apex Global Brands. Today it continues selling women’s jeans — bootcut, capris, plus size, and embroidered styles — through major U.S. retailers.

What Customers Say
Real feedback from women who have worn Earl Jean jeans for years — and keep coming back for the fit.

Been buying Earl Jean for years. The bootcut fits better than anything else I’ve tried at this price. Holds its shape after washing, which most don’t.
Patricia M.

I was skeptical about paying more for denim, but three years later I’m still reaching for these first. The color hasn’t gone muddy — just softer. Worth every cent.
Marcus T.

Finally found capris that sit right at the waist without gaping. The plus size fit is consistent, which I can’t say for a lot of other brands I’ve tried.
